Kappa Zeta Omega was the first Black Greek Letter Organization in Anderson County. The Chartering Service was held on Saturday, June 8, 1974. Miss Homie Regulus, South Atlantic Regional Director, presented the Charter. Visitors from chapters in Orangeburg, Greenville, and Hodges, SC were on hand to witness this historic occasion. Sixteen outstanding professional women committed to the goals of the National Program and became the Charter members of Kappa Zeta Omega.
Through the years, Kappa Zeta Omega has made an effort to be a positive force in the city of Anderson, by being involved in its educational, civic, cultural, and social activities. Kappa Zeta Omega has worked with the March of Dimes, Soup Kitchen, Hospice of the Upstate, the Anderson Arts Council, the NAACP, and the American Cancer Society, just to name a few.
Kappa Zeta Omega’s first fundraising project was a Biblical Tea. The current major fundraiser is Fashionetta. The first Fashionetta was held on December 10, 1976 on the campus of Anderson College, now Anderson University. This fundraiser is held every two years and serves also as a training program for young women and men in the Anderson community. The proceeds from this program have enabled Kappa Zeta Omega to extend its scholarship program and continue rendering support to many local and national charitable organizations.
